Ok, here are some questions and stuff that bothers me.
I want to make a journal out of it, so that all can read it, if they want to. Don't start bitching, this is my opinion, and if you read don't like it, then fuck off. I am of course open for other people's opinions, but it's not certain that I will care.

Why I don't do fanart of official characters

How easy is it not to earn popularity by drawing fanart? First of, I want to say that I don't scorn people who do, because if they want to draw fanart, and have fun doing it, well... that's their case! I on the other hand... For example, you can find hundreds of Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, whatever, pictures on DA. Some are really good and put a lot of work into, and I respect that, I fav some of those pics myself. But when a simple low doodle sketch or whatever gets on the front page, just because it's fanart, then it pisses me off. I see several fantastically talented artists around on DA every day, and they do not get half the attention, just because they actually use their freaking mind and come up with their own creations! People do not even bother to throw a glance at these pictures, just because it isn’t Sephirot, Riku or whoever the fuck. I would like to earn my reputation and potential popularity because people like what I draw, because people like my things. I think its sad that talented artists around DA don’t get attention whatsoever, just because they draw their own things. So fuck off!!!

People who fav my entire gallery in a matter of two minutes, but doesn’t leave a single comment

This is bullshit. How can I feel honoured in any way, just because anyone favs all my drawings, yet doesn’t tell me why? And it certainly feels really special when I see that these people have like three thousands pictures in their favourites. What are you thinking with? I am really careful with my favourites, I fav only pictures that I really really enjoy, that touches something within me, that I truly like. But when people just hit the favourite button like it was an enter- or space button, it means nothing! It’s like they’re just faving just to do it. Would it really hurt you so damned much to just take one, two, perhaps maximum three pictures and tell me why you like them? And don’t try to tell me that ‘Oh, but everything is so good, I have to fav it all! Lawwwl!’ That’s not fucking true. If everything is just as good, how come your favourites consist of nothing but the same thing over and over again. Not every picture is just as good. Perhaps you feel like you’re giving a compliment to the artist by faving every single one of his/hers picture, but it’s really just fucking annoying.

People leaving one word comments

How many times have I not gone over this? It’s because this is my biggest irritation. If I see a picture, and I really like it, I try to leave a somewhat proper comment. Doesn’t have to be a whole article, but just some sentences to give a little credit to the artist that has worked her ass off. A simple ‘cool’ or ‘kawaii’ doesn’t mean anything! It doesn’t describe what you like about the picture, it could’ve been about the News button at the top of the banner for all I know! And people saying ‘But I don’t know what more to say!’. Well, then don’t say anything at all! I will ignore you equally if you do, and you spare yourself the god damn trouble! Does it really take more than five brain cells to type two, three sentences?

So yeah... Fuck off. :heart:

You pointed the worst things an artist can suffer here on dA.

I enjoy fanarts and go into these random urge to fav the drawings I find more original and/or funny of the series I'm watching. Then I feel bad about having so much fanarts in my favourites 8D;
Mmh, I think that's why photographs aren't as recognized as the "drawing" artists: we can't do fanarts. Except if it's cosplay. It's the only way for easy-and-instant-favs for us photographers ;P

I remember when I made my account few years ago. Because I wasn't popular at all, I was happy to get one word comment because someone actually liked, no, saw the picture. Then one day I posted a picture I didn't find all that great, but because it was, I quote, "OMG SO CUTE!" it became my most popular deviation... and then I hated receiving empty, one word comments :)
(I'm sure I wrote a few one word comments here and here on dA... but I try to leave nice comments now)

As for people faving the entire gallery without leaving a single comment... well, that must sucks. Never happened to me, I'm sure I would be afraid if someone does that one day.

*Thinking* Now now, what must be worst than only one of these problems is the 3 combined together! A fanartist getting all his gallery faved with only a one word comment on his front page. Oh wait, I'm sure it already happened.

I'm not quite sure if this applies to me or not with the whole faving thing. >>;

But concerning the fanart, I agree entirely. Although I do respect the enthusiasm of some fanartists and the their love of the series/show/etc., they should be using that show/series/whatnot as a springboard for their creativity and begin independent works.

As for one word comments, I'm on the fence. I understand it seems or feels rude, and most of the time it really is insulting, but what if it strikes us in a way that's personal ? (not in a creepy way, of course, creepy people comment on creepy things all the time ~.~)

Personally, I try to avoid commenting, writing journal entries, replying to notes, anything that means communicating to someone else because dA usually says ' Nope :D we're gonna fuck with you until you can send something to them, then we're going to have you post it 8 times and look like a sick fan freak. Have a nice day~!'

I know it's not a great reason but you might understand if you see this comment a couple times. >_> Sorry if it upsets you

you have told all the truth. Sometimes I don´t write a lot because I have to think when I write in English :P but that´s the truth. I´ve decided to respond all the comments only when they say something interesting, but you can´t reply something interesting when the comment is a simple "Awesome job" except for a simple "thank you".

It seems you have a lot comments with this journal ;) hahah more than a non-fanart.

Much love for you little Marit :heart:

You've just pretty much written my pet hates about DA... oki, so I may do the odd fanart, but not often... and even then, I do try my best to make it my own style... there is something about own creations though... yet no-one gives credit as much as they should. I have seen so many original creatons yet the fanart gets all the luff... why does no one luff us? *cries*

When it comes to peoples comments, I ten to say thanxs... even if its just one word... but for me, I'm just glad someones looked at it. But when I do recieve the larger comments, like the ones you give me... I feel honored, because it never happens to me and my art... and it cheers me up when I'm having a poopiful day >.<

(Thanxs for cheering me up wit the watch hun <333)

I am sorry if I do not leave comments on your pictures I fave. Sometimes my evil, retarded computer refuses to let me comment on da...

I agree with you... on pretty much everything.

Really, it'd be nice to split the site up into two parts: original work, and fanart. Then the people who just want to see fanart can go there and everyone else who posts original work can earn popularity without some crappy out of character comic taking up the popular page. I respect people who draw fanart, but it's just annoying when it's just thrown up there and overshadows the real art which others slaved over.

Oooh, I couldn't agree more than you. Except... sometimes I do the "+fav and run". But it's because, sometimes, I just like the picture and have nothing more to say/I am very busy to say something helpful. And just God knows better than I how much I hate to do single-word comments.

Fanart is kinda of a soft spot for me. I mean, it's a really good way to grab the attention of people. But I don't draw it often... because I feel wrong about it. I want to grow up as a totally original anime/comic artist, not as some fangirl who draws cute scenes of the most wanted anime couple of the moment.

I DO have a thing for people who don't draw well and have no talent and are always at the front page. Take as example *justflyakite. I don't like that guy. Seriously! He don't even know how to be funny. I just liked of one deviation of him, and the rest was just awful. And he receives hundreds of +favs!! How come?!
But now, some people who don't know how to draw, like *furkel, are extremely talented, not with drawings, but with words and situations. He is someone that I would love to see at the front page, even if he just do stick figures.

It's sad that those things happen... But oh well. It's internet life... and it's full of stupid people. 8D

hun most people might read this but theyre gonna continue doing it anyway. ive been through this loads of times and yes it sometimes bug the hell out of me when someone fave my entire gallery or just use the typical word "kawaii" but you know what? i dont really care. they can do whatever they want. there are god knows how many members on DA today and still growing. 90% are 14 year old inuyasha and naruto lovers. but thats not something that's gonna change. this site has been going downhill and it's actually HARD finding all these amazing artists nowdays. you just need to keep an eye open and hope
