A Better USA?

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 7, 2008, 12:41 PM
  • Mood: Optimism

Yes, I'm gonna

talk about Obama winning the selection. First, these are my opinions, and if you don't like what you hear then you can kiss my ass. I am not trying to offend anyone, I just want to share my thoughts, and I will be happy to read and listen to your comments. And I'm gonna be frank through this, ok. First, I want to say; I am norwegian. I've never been in the US, but let me tell you; there has been no other country in the world that has pissed me off as much as USA. And I'm not saying I hate all Americans. I've met a few of you, in my country, and my impression is that you're very open and so very friendly. I have friends here on DA that are from the US, and they are all lovely people! So, do I hate americans? No, I don't. But your country surely has suffered like hell itself through Bush's rule for over 8 years now! I seriously thought, with all this shit happening, with the people of the US who hold the power, the damned republicans and so on, bombing just to get some oil... I had lost every freaking belief in your country.

So, as this selection came up, and I knew Obama was up for selection, I thought 'that guy doesn't have a snowflake chance in hell.' Why? Because arent' most of the people in the higher order of USA freaking white guys who would shoot their asses off before ever allowing a black person to be president? And even though Obama perhaps would get the most votes, I was even convinced that somehow someone would start screwing with the numbers, and like some miracle; McCain would win. I had no, and I mean absolutely, NO belief that Obama would win, even though I hoped for it.

A few nights ago, late at night, I was just watching some TV before I got to bed, and I stopped by CNN or NBC or whatever and I see with large letters; VICTORY FOR OBAMA. And my first thought is "What, he got most votes in maybe one state?". So I leave the remote, and I watch. And soon I see McMain holding a speach, and he's congratulating Obama as the new president of the United States. I swear, my freaking jaw dropped down to the floor.

I may not know much about politics, or about you Americans, but I believe that Bush have single handedly fucked up your country in 8 years more than any man could ever had done through a lifetime. And now, with all my faith in the US blown out of the window, Obama is to become the first black american president. So, I guess what I try to say is; You proved me wrong. I have great hopes that this man will do as he promise; change your country for the better. And he does not only have responsibility for the US, his rule is something that will effect the entire world.

All you people in USA:
I share your joy. <3

I know I'm coming into this thread more than a little late, and I really don't have the time to read more than the first page before posting this and getting on with life, but, being from the rocky mountain region of the USA where we still value a true work ethic, honesty and a man who is as good as his word, maybe you can understand the absolute horror that I felt when I realized that my country had elected a snake oil salesman as my president (just typing those two words in relation to him 'my president' makes my spine crawl).

Flame if you want, but I _know_ that Obama will do his best to make things worse for the people who make this country work by removing any incentive to excel, he himself has said so. And as much as President Bush has been portrayed by the media as the most sucky thing since the La Brea Tar Pits the amount of good he has done, the actions he has taken that, like Reagan, caused other nations to respect our moral high ground positions and the amount of times he has reached out to other nations and, internally, across the aisle to work with people who could share the same vision... to anyone who has been really watching not just what has been said about him but what has happened in his wake, should have garnered him respect not ridicule.

Living here I know how poisonous our media can be and this election season they were determined to crown the flim flam artist Obama as monarch. The pity is they succeeded.

Yeah, I really hate Bush... I had him as a Governor and well smartest kid with downs syndrome and all.

However, I hate Obama as well. Hate the man with a passion. Frankly, I don't trust him, I don't trust anyone who was being cheered on by the people who want us all dead. I'm terrified for my country, but seeing as I no longer have a choice I really hope for the best. I can't do more than that. People wanted an extreme change so that's why they went with Obama.

I liked McCain and Palin. I could connect with the two. McCain a POW veteran and Palin a soccer mom I thought that sort of insight would be best for our country. I was sad that a lot of their campaigning was about abortion and same sex marriage (my own view is pro-choice and misery for everyone). Our economy sucks, so the world economy sucks. Trickle-down economics works about as well as communism.

I always think it's crazy to hear the opinions of other countries, in a good way. I voted for Obama and I'm glad he won, and I too hope that he does what he's been promising. I can't imagine what it must be like for the rest of the world to have to deal with the U.S. (we're very pushy...) especially when we have an incompetent president. However, one thing that everyone (especially Americans) tends to forget is that the president is really only one man--our government is based on checks and balances to keep him from being all powerful. Bush himself didn't screw EVERYTHING up. It was really a combination of him trying to please his Republican constituents and the way his administration worked with the other branches of government which lead everything to shit. Hopefully now things will work out for the better!

I voted for Obama, and I'm so relieved that he won (if McCain won, I probably would leave the States or something, lol). You are correct, Bush really f***ked us good the past several years. Poor Obama's gonna have to clean up the huge mess he made.

Now we just gotta ride out the bull the republicans (well, not strictly Republicans; those who didn't vote for him) are having about him...it'll be a loong while before they settle down.

!! Yes, I'm glad that you think that way, even though you don't reside in the country of the United States. I had the same beliefs as you, and I'm glad to have read them someone else's thoughts that matched my own. ^^

The great thing about America is we can always change suddenly. It can be for the best or worst, but it means if we do get into a sticky spot we can bounce back.

I voted for Obama, and I'm really happy that he won. The main thing that won me over was that he doesn't have the same ideas as Bush. Maybe McCain would try and change things too, but I just felt we need someone different in office. Someone who is really going to try and change America, and I think he can do it! I certainly hope, anyway, that he can! :aww:
